Most topiaries will lose their shape over time without expert care. However, I have recently noticed the ease with which one of our local landscape plants can be shaped, even by a novice gardener. Arizona cypress is a very forgiving evergreen, perfect for the intrepid gardener to try their hand at topiary pruning. It actually responds favorably to frequent shearing by producing flushes of vibrantly colored new growth. As long as these plants get full sun and good airflow, you can prune them into almost any shape you would like.
