TIP 1: If you have trees and shrubs that you are thinking about removing, do so ASAP. Birds will begin building nests soon, and if the task is put off, nesting birds will be displaced and eggs destroyed.
TIP 2: The proper time to prune Crape Myrtles is late winter or early spring prior to new growth. Do not prune Crape Myrtles in late summer or early fall because new shoots that grow may freeze if they fail to go fully dormant.
TIP 3: Brown or rotted spots on your African violet leaves? Check to be sure that you have not overwatered. There should be no water in their saucers 20 mins after watering. The best way to water African violets is from the bottom. Just set the pot in a saucer of water and let the plant wick up what it needs, discarding any remaining water.
TIP 4: If you are spreading ashes from your wood burning stove or fireplace in your garden, be aware that over time you are raising the pH of your soil.
TIP 5: NOW IS THE TIME. Pre-emergent weed control kills weed seeds BEFORE they germinate! To control that annoying crabgrass that pops up in spring, now is the time to apply pre-emergent crabgrass control to your lawn.
